Tara T. Green is CLASS Distinguished Professor and Chair of African American Studies at the University of Houston, USA. She is the author of several books including See Me Naked: Black Women Defining Pleasure during the Interwar Era (2022) and editor of two books, including From the Plantation to the Prison: African American Confinement Literature (2008).
In the second half of this conversation on activist, educator, writer, and bisexual icon Alice Dunbar-Nelson, Tara T. Green discusses Alice’s queerness and her life as a queer person in the 19th century United States. Dunbar-Nelson defied many assumptions a contemporary reader may have of the Reconstruction and post-Reconstruction era United States, including that she was exceptionally well-traveled.
